One place for everyday conversions
Choose a category, then pick the units you are converting between. The unit converter covers length, weight and temperature. Each category uses exactly the same conversion engine as its dedicated converter page, so a result here always matches the result there; this page is simply a single starting point when you are not sure which converter you need.
What each category covers
- Length: millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, inches, feet, yards, miles and nautical miles, all converted through exact factors to the meter.
- Weight: milligrams, grams, kilograms, tonnes, ounces, pounds and stone, using the exact international definition of the pound (0.45359237 kg).
- Temperature: Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin. Temperature is handled differently from the other categories because the scales are offset from one another, not just multiplied, so the converter uses the standard formulas rather than a single factor.
Switching category resets the unit choices to that category's own units, so you never end up converting between units that do not belong together.
Precision
Results show up to 10 significant digits with trailing zeros removed. Categories such as volume, area and speed are not offered yet because their conversion tables have not been published for this site; they will be added as dedicated converters rather than estimated here.
