What this tool does
Enter an amount and pick two currencies to convert between, using a current exchange rate. Change the amount as many times as you like — the conversion recalculates instantly without a new lookup; only changing which two currencies you're converting between fetches a fresh rate.
A real, worked example
At a rate of 0.92, €92.00 is what 100 US dollars converts to in euros. Currencies with no decimal subdivision in everyday use, like the Japanese yen, are shown without decimal places: 100 US dollars at a rate of 149.5 shows as ¥14,950, not "¥14,950.00" — each currency's own real formatting convention is used, not a fixed two-decimal default applied everywhere.
What "exchange rate" means here
This shows the mid-market rate — the midpoint between the buy and sell price currencies trade at on the wholesale market. It is not the rate your bank, card network, or a currency-exchange counter will actually give you: those add their own markup, typically a percentage on top of the mid-market rate, which is how they make money on the exchange. If you're budgeting for an actual purchase or transfer, expect your real rate to be somewhat less favorable than what's shown here.
How current is the rate?
Rates update regularly (around once an hour) rather than being fetched fresh on every single visit — a currency's mid-market rate doesn't meaningfully change from one minute to the next, and refreshing less aggressively keeps the tool fast and reliable. The exact time the displayed rate was last updated is always shown alongside the result, so you can judge its freshness yourself rather than taking "current" on faith.
When a fresh rate can't be retrieved
If the rate provider is temporarily unreachable, this tool shows the last rate it successfully retrieved, clearly labeled as such, rather than either failing outright or silently showing a stale rate as if it were current. If no rate has ever been successfully retrieved for a currency pair, you'll see a plain message that rates are temporarily unavailable.
Supported currencies
160+ world currencies are supported, covering the great majority of commonly traded and commonly needed currencies.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the rate different from my bank's rate? See "What exchange rate means here" above — banks and exchange services add their own markup on top of the mid-market rate shown here.
Can I convert more than two currencies at once? Not in a single view — pick one pair at a time; switching either currency updates the conversion.
Does this execute a real currency exchange? No — this is informational only, showing you what an amount converts to at the current rate. It doesn't move money or connect to any bank account.
Limitations
This tool displays the mid-market rate, not a rate any particular bank or service will actually honor. It does not include historical rate charts or multi-currency batch conversion. Rates refresh on an interval rather than instantaneously on every request.
Privacy
The currency pair you select is sent to our server to retrieve the current exchange rate. The amount you enter is not — the actual conversion happens in your browser once the rate has been retrieved.
